Typical equipment: Excavator, generator, loader, forklift, tractor and platform lift
Time: Up to 20 minutes
Required tools: 10/13 mm sockets, scissors/cable snips – more complex installs may also require a soldering iron, heat-shrink kit and multimeter
Guide applies to: ABAX6S, GT107, FMM230, FMC230, ABAX6M
Please follow these guidelines to ensure a safe, reliable installation.
Step 1. Find a power supply
Option A. Connect to a power supply that is interrupted by an isolator or kill switch
Often an easier install and ideal if the equipment is stationary for long periods, as the device will not drain the equipment battery. However, tracking will be limited or unavailable while the isolator is activated.
Option B: Connect directly to the battery or a power supply that is before the isolator or kill switch
Often, a more robust installation, but it can be more complex. Full tracking will still be available even when the isolator is activated. Special care must be taken when connecting any usage wires.
If you need help finding a location, refer to the manual or contact ABAX support.
Step 2. Pick a mounting location
Suitable mounting locations are based on the battery location and whether the device should be hidden from view.
Installation tips:
- Avoid mounting the device under metal or close to other electronic components
- Do not mount on hot surfaces or moving parts such as windscreen wipers
- Position the device's logo towards the sky
- Try to be consistent with your mounting locations across your fleet
Step 3. Prepare the area
Ensure the cables comfortably reach the power source and are protected from being pinched or damaged.
Clean and dry the mounting location using the supplied cleansing wipe.
Step 4. Mount the device
Loosen the connections and connect the black wire to the factory chassis ground or negative (-) terminal, and the red wire to the positive (+) terminal or power supply.
If you also plan to connect the usage wire, you must ground the black wire to the chassis to avoid interference.
Firmly stick the device in place and tidy any cabling with the zip ties provided.
Once connected, the LED will blink for several minutes. When it stops, the device is ready. It may take up to an hour for the first location to register on your platform. If no update occurs, contact ABAX support.
Step 5. Connect the usage wire(s) (optional)
Connect the usage wire to a +8V running signal. Some devices have multiple usage wires; each one can be connected to a different input and monitor usage independently.
Step 6. Register the device
Find the device's serial number in the ABAX Admin app and enter any relevant details.
No app access? Setup can be completed later in the web platform by an Admin. For now, note the serial number, date, time, and other relevant details such as name, make and model.
